CHASHITSU à Roppongi, Tokyo

Un pavillon de thé indépendant au sein d'une résidence privée de Roppongi, où pierres, mousse et un vieux prunier réemployés prolongent la mémoire du lieu dans un espace dédié au thé.

Au sein d'une résidence privée de Roppongi, à Tokyo, ce pavillon de thé indépendant est un refuge dédié à la pratique du thé, réunissant une salle de trois tatamis et demi (san-jō daime), un mizuya et un banc d'attente abrité.

Plutôt que de faire table rase, le projet s'est nourri de ce qui existait déjà. Pierres, mousse et le tronc patiné d'un vieux prunier ont été réemployés, laissant l'histoire du jardin se prolonger dans la construction. Les bois précieux ont été rabotés et ajustés à la main par des maîtres charpentiers. Un bassin de pierre marque le seuil de la purification ; de larges avant-toits encadrent le jardin ; au crépuscule, la lueur d'une lanterne se love dans le bois.

Le bassin de purification

Avant d'entrer, l'invité s'arrête au tsukubai pour se rincer les mains et la bouche — un geste qui apaise l'esprit et marque le passage du quotidien à l'univers du thé.

Le pavillon au crépuscule

À la tombée du soir, l'éclairage du jardin et une lanterne de pierre font émerger le pavillon de l'obscurité. La structure de bois semble s'établir parmi les arbres, recueillant le calme du jour finissant.

L'entrée derrière les érables

De jeunes feuilles d'érable encadrent l'entrée et son enseigne. Le long du sentier (roji), le pavillon se dévoile peu à peu, le jardin préparant chaque invité à la pièce qui l'attend.

L'intérieur ouvert sur le jardin

À l'intérieur, des fenêtres d'angle ouvrent la pièce sur la verdure, tandis qu'une lampe de papier (andon) réchauffe le bois. L'intérieur et le jardin se rejoignent, et leur frontière s'efface doucement.
