Takeshi Imaizumi

Takeshi Imaizumi is a Japanese ceramic artist whose work explores the enduring beauty of classical Chinese wares—especially Song-dynasty aesthetics—through celadon, tenmoku, and quietly luminous white porcelain. Born in Saitama in 1978, he began making pottery while at university, pursued technical study in Tajimi (Gifu) after graduation, and later established his own studio. Through relentless glaze formulation and firing tests, Imaizumi achieves translucent jade tones, profound black sheen, and delicate crackle patterns that come alive in changing light. In tea bowls and sake vessels, tradition and contemporary sensibility meet in a clear, poised tension—pieces that feel calm, yet undeniably present.
