Mahito Yoshida is a Japanese ceramic artist celebrated for Shino ware—works where Mino clay and kiln fire create richly expressive “scenery” held within calm, disciplined forms. Born in Gifu in 1972, he began making pottery in his teens under his father, potter Yoshihiko Yoshida, whose lineage connects to the tradition of Toyozō Arakawa. Yoshida values the breathing rhythm of the kick wheel, shaping pieces that feel warm, unhurried, and quietly human. From tea bowls and flower vases to sake wares, his Shino balances boldness with stillness—bringing the depth of Mino ceramics into both contemporary living and tea practice.
