Yu Fujiwara

Yu Fujiwara (1932–2001), a Living National Treasure of Bizen ware, was celebrated for his generous forms and his deep affection for clay itself. In the unglazed, high-fired tradition of Bizen, his vessels achieve surfaces of astonishing softness — warm brownish-tan skins painted only by flame.

Elegant hidasuki fire markings and quiet, grounded silhouettes define his work: the reassuring presence of the earth, made intimate.

wanova offers carefully sourced works by Yu Fujiwara, with detailed condition photographs. Viewing at our Roppongi gallery, Tokyo (by appointment).
