Yasushi Fujihira

Yasushi Fujihira (b. 1963, Gojōzaka, Kyoto) is a Japanese ceramic artist known for hand-built forms—made without the wheel—where gentle contours carry a quietly poetic presence. After studying archaeology at Kansai University, he trained in ceramics at a Kyoto prefectural program and began exhibiting in Kyoto; today he works from Kameoka. Fujihira layers expressive glazes such as copper-red (shinsya), as well as gold and silver accents, moving freely between functional wares and sculptural objects. Inheriting the lyrical spirit of his father, potter Shin Fujihira, he creates pieces with spaciousness and subtle humor that reframe everyday gestures with warmth.
