Hideki Yanashita

Hideki Yanashita is a Japanese ceramic artist who transforms the “scenery” created by clay and flame into vessels for contemporary life. Born in Tokyo in 1967, he graduated from Kuwasawa Design School, trained in Shigaraki, and in 2002 built his own ana-gama (cave kiln) in Iga, Mie, establishing his kiln practice there. From 2007 onward, he has continued to study under Sadamitsu Sugimoto, deepening an approach rooted in Iga and Shigaraki while moving fluidly across Oribe, Raku, and Shino-inspired expressions. His works carry a quiet tension—powerful fired textures held in calm, architectural forms—bringing wabi-sabi depth to tea wares, sake cups, and flower vessels.
