{"product_id":"hikidashi-black-yunomi-by-kai-tsujimura","title":"Hikidashi Black Tea Cup YUNOMI -Japanese Tea Cup","description":"\u003cp\u003eThe \u003ci\u003ehikidashi-guro\u003c\/i\u003e technique — drawing a piece from the kiln at full heat and cooling the black glaze in an instant — has been used since the Momoyama period to fix a glassy, iron-black surface that slow cooling cannot produce.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA tall cylindrical tea cup by Kai Tsujimura in \u003ci\u003ehikidashi-guro\u003c\/i\u003e, the black glaze produced by drawing the piece from the kiln at peak heat.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUnlike the bowls in the same technique, this cup carries a glossier, wetter black, with a slight ripple in the walls and thin horizontal lines where the fingers moved during throwing.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe glaze stops just above the base, leaving a narrow band of pale clay and a small bare patch at the foot.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA cup for everyday sencha or hojicha, with enough weight in the hand to feel settled.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eKai Tsujimura was born in Nara in 1976. He trained under his father, the ceramicist Shiro Tsujimura, from 1994, before building his own wood-fired kiln in Sakurai, Nara, in 2000.
