{"product_id":"hikidashi-black-chawan-by-kai-tsujimura-w00121","title":"Hikidashi Black Tea Bowl CHAWAN -Japanese Tea Bowl","description":"\u003cp\u003eThe \u003ci\u003ehikidashi-guro\u003c\/i\u003e technique — drawing a piece from the kiln at full heat and cooling the black glaze in an instant — has been used since the Momoyama period to fix a glassy, iron-black surface that slow cooling cannot produce.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA compact, upright tea bowl by Kai Tsujimura in \u003ci\u003ehikidashi-guro\u003c\/i\u003e, the black glaze that results from drawing the bowl out of the kiln while it is still glowing and cooling it at once.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe walls rise almost straight from a narrow base, and the surface has the slightly dry, leaden sheen typical of this technique, with a few small pale flecks where the glaze pulled away from the clay.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eInside, the glaze pools thick and dark with a faint lustre around the well. The foot is unglazed, showing a grey-buff clay and a neatly trimmed \u003ci\u003ekodai\u003c\/i\u003e with a spiral centre.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSmall in the hand and quick to warm, this is a bowl suited to thin tea and to a smaller, intimate gathering.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eKai Tsujimura was born in Nara in 1976. He trained under his father, the ceramicist Shiro Tsujimura, from 1994, before building his own wood-fired kiln in Sakurai, Nara, in 2000.
