The rounded body narrows to a short neck and sits on a small, slightly splayed foot.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eBizen ware is unglazed; colour comes only from the wood-fired kiln. Here the surface is a warm sandy buff with a band of orange \u003ci\u003ehidasuki\u003c\/i\u003e, the scorch marks left where rice straw was wrapped around the body, and a fine speckle of ash across the shoulder.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe interior is left plain and the mouth is finished cleanly to take the lid.
